LGI(T) Review or LGI(T) Review plus Basic Challenge
There are two options for this one-day course:
1. The ARC LGI/IT Review Course only.
2. The ARC LGI/IT Review Course plus the Basic LG Course for Instructors.

This course is for American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructors that have taught at least one class in the last two years and need to renew their Lifeguard Instructor (HSSAQU856) or Lifeguarding Instructor Trainer certification . ARC has included a requirement that all LGI's do an in-person water review every two years to maintain the LGI certification.
The LGI Update course runs a minimum of 7.5 hours and offers the opportunity to do a Lifeguard Review challenge-like certification afterwards. This type of basic level recertification is not available to anyone that has not just successfully completed the Lifeguard Instructor Review course.
Please be sure to download and be familiar with the LG Manual and LGI Manual.
Important things to bring with you to class:
1. Swim suit and towels.
2. Snacks and water for the day.
3. LGI Manual (mentioned above).
4. Proof of current LG Certification.
5. Proof of current LGI Certification.
6. Pocket Mask (also sold on site for $15.00).

LGI COURSE SCHEDULE
Welcome to the upcoming American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor course held through Sweetwater Pools, Inc.

Please complete the pre-course portion and bring a printed completion verifications with you to the first day of class. If you do not complete the online sessions, you will not be eligible to continue to the instructor course. The instructions will be emailed by Red Cross once I register you. I will text you that I have registered you so please create your account using an email you check and a textable phone number.

The manuals for the LGI class are the Lifeguarding Manual and the Lifeguarding Instructor’s Manual. Both manuals can be either downloaded at redcrosslearningcenter.org or bought from the Red Cross Store. If you would like the LGI Manual from Sweetwater please contact me about printing you one.
At the first class session there is a Pre-course Skills Evaluation session which includes an evaluation of your in-water swimming and rescue skills along with first aid, CPR and AED skills. You must successfully complete this session to continue in the Lifeguarding Instructor course.
Please bring the following documents to the first class session:
A current American Red Cross Deep water certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
Proof that you are at least 17 years old by the end of the course (driver’s license, state identification card, birth certificate, passport or other government-issued photo identification)
Verification that you completed the Online Sessions

To successfully complete the LGI class:
Successfully complete the Online Sessions
Successfully complete the Precourse Skills Evaluation Session**
Attend and actively participate in all course sessions
Successfully complete class activities, including four practice-teaching assignments
Score at least 80 percent on the Bloodborne Pathogens Instructor Self-Study test
Score a minimum of 80 percent on the instructor course final written exam
**At the beginning of the first In-Class session, you may participate in a “precourse swim test.” You may be asked perform the following skills:
Swim 300 yards continuously (using freestyle and breaststroke) with face in the water, demonstrating regular breathing
Tread water 2 minutes, legs only
Timed Swim 20 yards, surface dive to bottom, retrieve 10 lb weight, swim back to starting point with both hands on weight, climb out using side of pool in less than 1 minute and 40 seconds
If you arrive at class and cannot pass the swimming test listed above, you will not be allowed to continue in that class. The $50 non refundable fee will not be returned if you cannot complete the precourse.
You must also demonstrate maturity and responsibility throughout the course. These qualities are demonstrated by, among other things:
a. Arriving at class on time and be prepared.
b. Paying attention to the instructor trainer and staying engaged in class activities.
c. Returning from breaks on time.
d. Being prepared for class activities, such as dressed in swim wear when required.
e. Completing homework assignments
f. Demonstrating that effort was put forth toward homework assignments.
g. Behaving appropriately during activities.
h. Providing appropriate feedback, as requested, especially to peers after practice-teaching assignments.
i. Receiving feedback from the instructor trainer as well as peers in a professional manner.
j. Making an effort to improve your skills.
k. Treating others with respect.
Please bring with you to class each day:
· One or two 3-ring binders (1.5 to 2 inch) to put your teaching materials.
· A swimsuit – preferably 2 or more
A towel – preferably 2 or more
2 pens
Snacks & drinks
Sweatshirt or jacket
Pocket Mask - they will be for sale for $15 at the class.
